VIOLIN CITY
Sculpture
‘Violin City’ is part of the Paper Artist Collective project (Paper Passion) sponsored by Arctic Paper.
The brief was to express our passion for paper in an artwork, by reflecting on our own personal paper journey.
The concept of creating something that brings harmony, joy and presence to a state of being was overwhelming and exciting at the same time. So, music came to mind and, in particular, the sound of the violin played with passion and powerful emotions – elation or desperation.
Shortly after the violin made it to the sketch book, another topic started worming its way into thoughts and then into the sketch book. Immigration! A generic topic, yet extremely personal. Contrary to popular opinion it’s not a current topic at all. It is as old as the existence of mankind and many other species – the instinct to survive and the need to search for a better destination.
This piece is not an attempt to talk about immigration in the way we know it, but rather a simple curious search for sound. It is done in hope of telling the story of a city in search of its melody and harmony, not necessarily by moving into a new space, but rather by looking for its unique beautiful sound from within.
